Brewery Spotlight: Diamond Bear Brewing Company

Brew fit for a king (or a president).

Arkansas has always been a haven for beer drinkers, but for years it never had beer it could call its own. Diamond Bear Brewing Company changed that. And along the way, they just happened to garner the attention of a former president, who, rumor has it, lists their IPA as his favorite brew.

Founded in 2000, Diamond Bear was Little Rock’s first production brewery in 15 years. Since then it’s expanded throughout the South, and with good reason – it’s damn good beer. And it has the awards to back it up.

It all starts with the Pale Ale. The brewery’s flagship beer, this perfectly balanced pale ale has won gold three times. With a clear, full-bodied crispness, this brightly hopped brew has just the right amount of bitterness and sweetness.

If you’re a porter drinker, you’ll love the Paradise Porter. Deep brown, almost black brew with hints of chocolate, coffee and caramel, this is a porter that can go toe-to-toe with the biggest names in the business. Bittersweet, it has a creamy body that makes it a perfect companion for pecan pie or chocolate cake.

Of course there are several others to choose from, including a Southern Blonde; a Presidential IPA that’s allegedly loved by a former President and Arkansas governor; and Two Term Imperial IPA, a strong IPA with a cult following.

If you’re in North Little Rock, be sure to stop by Diamond Bear’s tasting room, The Arkansas Ale House. With a full selection of their award-winning beers on tap, you can relax, and kick a few back while enjoying delicious pub fare like Southern Style Wings with a mustard and vinegar barbeque sauce or a flatiron steak sandwich with caramelized onions, Bibb lettuce, provolone and a jalapeno aioli on sourdough.

Take your dog with you when you go. Diamond Bear has a large dog-friendly "petio" that's perfect for kicking back in the company of your two-legged and four-legged drinking buddies.

And don’t forget to pick up a hoody, a camo hat, a growler, or some other Diamond Bear merchandise while you’re there. You’ll look cool and show people you’re a beer connoisseur at the same time. Because, if it’s good enough for the Oval Office, it’s sure to be something you’ll love too.
