Brewing up something great.
Nearly every beer lover has, at some point, thought about trying their hand at creating their own brew. I know I did. It came in the unfortunate form of a Mr. Beer brew kit, and the results, were, uh, let’s say, less than ideal.
But one thing it made me realize is that brewing good beer isn’t easy. It’s a skill that requires a significant amount of knowledge. And sure, some home brewers figure this out on their own. But if you want a shortcut, you need to tap into the wisdom of an experienced brewer. You need someone who will guide you through the process, avoiding the myriad pitfalls that plagued new brewers. Never fear, in downtown Overland Park, in a brand new building, there’s just the place. Of course I’m talking about Brewlab.
Brewlab started out in a smaller location in downtown OP as a place to help aspiring beer makers get started. They offer classes that walk you through the process, from selecting a beer type all the way through conditioning. It’s a great time and the perfect group outing.
But recently, the brilliant minds behind Brewlab realized the public demand for their great brews and they moved a few blocks to the east into a much bigger location, complete with kitchen and tap room.
Now maybe I’m biased, because I live near and love downtown OP, but Brewlab is exactly the type of place the area needed. It already had great bars in Maloneys, the Peanut and the Other Place, and Brewlab fits right in. Not only is their food delicious, but the atmosphere is great and the beer selection is amazing. A mix of their own creations alongside some popular guest taps, it’s a great selection curated by a friendly and knowledgeable staff.
I tried almost all of their originals the last time I was in, and I can tell you, they didn’t have a miss. My personal favorite with the 2nd Breakfast Brown Ale, but really they were all really good.
So whether you’re in the mood to whip up your own beer, or just relax and sip on a cold one, Brewlab is the place for you. Get over there as soon as you can. You won’t regret it.
