Breaker, breaker, we’re 10-8 to great beer

   Do you believe in the American Dream? If you do, I’ve got just the place for you, a career military man who traded in his uniform for a brewer’s apron with nothing more than a big dream and a talent for brewing great beers. Of course, I’m talking about Callsign Brewing.

  Still in the development phase, Callisign was founded by Steve Sirois, a 27-year veteran of the Air Force, Air Force Reserves and Air National Guard. Starting out as a home brewer, he perfected his craft and is now ready to expand into a brick and mortar location in North Kansas City, where he can share his talents with the people in the community.

 As if that wasn’t cool enough, here’s the really awesome thing: Callsign’s beers are made to honor military hero. Every beer is named after the call sign of a lost military aircraft as a tribute to the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. There’s a story behind every one, and it’s a great way to recognize our fallen while enjoying a fantastic beer at the same time.

 Try the Jockey 14 Irish Red for a great take on an oft under-appreciated beer style. And while you’re sipping it, take a moment to think about the crew of this AC-130H Spectre Gunship that went down off the coast of Kenya.

 Or sip on the Beatle 12 Pale Ale, named in honor of an MH-53M helicopter that went down while operating on a support mission during Operation Enduring Freedom.

 Each of these fantastic beers has a story behind its name, and make you realize how lucky you are to be able enjoy a cold one in peace and security. If you have a second, check out the stories behind each. It’s a solemn but fascinating read, but one that will make you proud to be an American.
