Brewery Spotlight: Rock & Run Brewery and Pub

Good beer finds a way.

Imagine you have one of the best small craft breweries north of the river in Kansas City. Imagine your beers are so beloved by the local community, that you’re about to expand into the space next to you. And then imagine said space, with which you share a wall, unexpectedly collapses. For Rock & Run Brewery and Pub, this nightmare became a reality. But good beer always finds a way.

Recognizing the Northland would be lost without their amazing beer, owners Gene DeClue (the Rock) and Dan Hatcher (the Run), stoically moved to the east, to 114 E Kansas St., and went right back to work while the original space is renovated. And beer lovers everywhere are glad they did.

That’s because they make really great beer. And it starts with Liberty². Named for their location, just off the old town square in Liberty, Mo, this light-bodied golden ale is clean, crisp and refreshing. It’s the perfect accompaniment to their Beer Cheese and House-Made Fries. (Note: Rock & Run is currently offering an abbreviated menu while their space is being rebuilt, but don’t worry, all your favorites are still available.)

If you’re looking for something a bit more full-bodied, the Ryely Porter, named after Dan’s dog and the brewery’s mascot Riley, is a rich dark porter with a strong rye finish. It’s just what the doctor ordered for those brisk fall days.

And like every brewery worth its salt, Rock & Run offers a variety of seasonal beers. Everyone knows about that other Kansas City brewer’s chocolate beer, but Rock & Run’s Choc-o-Wheat can give it a run for its money any day of the week. Dark in color but light in body, this full-flavored wheat is brewed with chocolate malt and dry hopped with Cocoa Nibs for a brew that will delight the palate of every beer drinker.

Rock & Run Brewery has great beer, great food and a welcoming staff. Don’t let a little thing like a building collapse keep you away. Head over there and grab a brew – you’ll be glad you did.
