You don’t have to dig for great beer.
When someone says the Ozarks, what do you think? If you’re like most people, you probably think of some combination of rolling mountains, beautiful lakes, fall foliage and moonshine. You may not think beer – though you should.
Fossil Cove Brewing Company is a Fayetteville, Arkansas-based brewery that’s spearheading the movement to make the Ozarks synonymous with craft brews. Founded in 2012 with the mission of providing quality ales to all Arkansans, they’ve been building quite a reputation since.
Served in establishments all across Northwest Arkansas or in their very own tasting room, Fossil Cove Brewing Co. has a variety of seasonal and year-round beers to choose from, each more inspirational than the last.
You should start with one of the perennials like the Paleo Pale Ale, a heady, citrusy balance of malt and hops, or the La Brea Brown, an American brown ale with a hint of fruitiness and hop bitterness.
Depending on the season, you can also sample a selection of seasonal brews. Spring brings the Hoppy Wheat Ale, a honey-colored delight with hints of grapefruit that’s ideal for those warm April afternoons. Summer heralds the arrival of the Whizzle, a White IPA, that’s satisfyingly refreshing when the weather heats up.
When the leaves turn beautiful shades of red, orange and yellow, and the hills sparkle in the autumn sun, settle down with a Blizzle and watch the Razorbacks play football. This Black IPA has a toasted malt flavor, with hints of hops and yeast combining for a strong, full-bodied beer. And in the winter, warm up with a Coffee IPA< brewed with locally roasted Onyx Coffe Labs coffee.
And these are just the beginning. At the tasting room, you’ll find nearly a dozen fantastic beers to choose from, every one a great choice.
And if you’re around this winter, don’t miss out on Frost Fest. On February 3, this celebration of craft beer in the region, will feature a day of beer, music, food and art.
